TechPet Brings Your iPhone to Life Tamagotchi-style

You fed it, put it to bed and picked up after the pixelated poops. You were inconsolable after it died, but it returned after a simple reset.

Remember your first Tamagotchi? Bandai, the same company that gave us our favorite virtual pet, released a new version of TechPet, a toy that turns your iPhone into a dog.

You can download the free TechPet app and take care of your animal on your iPhone or iPod Touch, but once you plug the device into your headphone jack, the pet comes to life. Your iPhone's screen becomes the puppy's face and the rest of the body responds to your actions.

Like Tamagotchi, you nurture your pet by feeding, grooming and playing.

Like Tamagotchi, you nurture your pet by feeding, grooming and playing. More features and games are unlocked as you take better care of it. Users won't have to worry about death with TechPet, but the dog will let you know when it's neglected, sick or sad through its barking, movements and facial expressions.

The on-screen image can be customized with accessories like bows, tiaras or moustaches, or you can completely replace the animal's features with your own photo.

TechPet responds to hand motions and voice by singing, moving or dancing. When you get two or more pets together, they connect via Bluetooth. The toy can also double as an MP3 player when you sit the dog on its hind legs.

TechPet is available in pink, white and dalmatian for tweens and pet-lovers alike on Amazon and in stores for $59.99.
