Max Chilton feels lucky to secure race seat at Marussia for 2013 ? Formula 1 news
Max Chilton has said that he is feeling very lucky to secure a race seat at Marussia for the 2013 Formula 1 season after acting as their reserve driver in the final six grands prix of 2012.
Chilton performed impressively well in this year?s GP2 Series and secured fourth place finish in the championship with two race wins. Moreover, he made his F1 debut with the Banbury based squad in the first free practice session at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
The 21-year-old has expressed that he is feeling extremely happy to get the opportunity to race with Marussia in the next season. Furthermore, he said that he is very much pleased with his performance in GP2 in this season and is earnestly looking forward to perform well in F1 in the coming year.
In addition, he said that he has gained a lot of confidence after taking part in this year?s Young Driver Test and in the first practice at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
?It?s hard to put into words how I?m feeling today, with the announcement that I will be racing for the Marussia F1 Team in 2013,? Chilton said. ?It comes at the end of what has been a fantastic year for me, and those steps - my GP2 pole positions and wins, my performances in the F1 young driver test and in FP1 at Abu Dhabi - have given everyone the confidence in my ability to compete at the highest level of motor sport.?
Besides, he said that he considers himself very lucky that he got the chance to finally begin his career in F1 with Marussia.
?I feel very lucky to be able to embark on my F1 racing career with this group of people,? he added.
On the other hand, the team principal of Marussia, John Booth said that they have full confidence in their decision regarding taking the young driver in their team for the next season.
Additionally, he said that they are aiming to make the necessary developments in their car during the winter testing so as to come up stronger in the coming season.
