Job Title: Financial Reporting Lecturer
The Education Development Unit (Commerce) has a large Academic Development programme that engages with students throughout the degree. Academic Development (AD) is an equity programme that attracts students who have often experienced gaps and disparities in both their education and life experiences, but who have the ability to succeed at university. The job description allows considerable room for initiative in undertaking this work.
The Education Development Unit (EDU) has extended their first year teaching model to include two full-time teaching posts for Financial Reporting II over a two year period.
We invite applications from those interested in teaching Financial Reporting (Accounting) to Academic Development programme students for the position of lecturer in EDU.
The ideal candidate would be a specialist in Financial Reporting (Accounting), understand and support broader transformation issues, have a passion for teaching and be able to work as part of a team. The successful candidate would report to the Director of EDU, while being responsible for courses located in the College of Accounting.
Responsibilities (always in liaison with the College of Accounting) include: ? Teaching on a SAICA accredited programme in Financial Reporting (Accounting) on the AD programme, specifically focused on undergraduate Financial Reporting courses ? Designing, developing and evaluating course materials and other initiatives which promote learning and teaching ? Convening at least one undergraduate course or programme ? Managing related administrative tasks ? On-going monitoring of the individual progress of AD students ? Designing teaching interventions and support structures (for example workshops and on-line learning spaces) to facilitate student development ? Coordination of tutoring system, including appointment and development of tutors, to promote student learning ? Undertake educational research, contributing towards reflective practice in higher education ? Co-operating with the EDU Director and the Head of College of Accounting participating in the general work of the EDU, including critical reflection of the teaching interventions, exchange of insights and experiences regarding academic development with other AD staff ? Involvement in social responsibility projects and initiatives of EDU and the College
Requirements include: ? Professional qualification as a Chartered Accountant (South Africa) ? Ability to work in a team, reflect on practice working with students from varying educational backgrounds and be innovative
The successful candidates will be expected to: ? Demonstrate a broad and thorough understanding of the subject area of accounting with specialisation in Financial Reporting ? Apply their knowledge in their area of specialisation in innovative ways to undergraduate teaching ? Work within a dynamic team and contribute towards teaching-related research and related initiatives within EDU
Preference will be given to applicants who can show evidence of: ? Relevant teaching or tutoring experience ? Practical business experience ? Strong presentation skills ? Innovative teaching and reflection on practice ? Demonstrated commitment to working with students with varying educational backgrounds and needs ? Demonstrated research in academic development issues ? Multilingualism with respect to African languages ? Specialised competence within Financial Reporting (Accounting)
The annual remuneration package, including benefits at Lecturer level, is R457 223.
