ROYERSFORD ? A Spring-Ford Area High School emotional support teacher in the subjects of English and science won the ?Voices of Inspiration? Award for Teaching Excellence for Spring-Ford this year.
Freedom Credit Union honors 23 teachers with the awards, one to each school district in the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit, each year.
Aimee Oblak, who has taught for 15 years, won the award after she was chosen from a field of 745. She was honored at the Spring-Ford Area School Board workshop meeting Monday night.
?She serves as an inspirational presence in the classroom by challenging her students to challenge themselves,? said Pat Nugent, the high school?s principal.
According to Nugent, Oblak works with children with mental health and behavioral issues. Part of what makes her so special, he said, is her willingness to accept students ?for who they are.?
Oblak, a little shy, told the board she was doing exactly what she?s always wanted to do.
?I am working my dream job,? Oblak said. ?From the time I was in eighth grade, this uis what I wanted to do,? she said.
?Her job is quite the task on the day-to-day basis and she an excellent job (at it).? Nugent said. ?Sometimes I don?t think people realize the challenges that comes with that.?
In addition to Oblak, Spring-Ford has ties to another 2013 winner of the ?Voices of Inspiration? award, Nugent said.
Ericka (Davidheiser) Leslie, a 1991 Spring-Ford graduate, also won the award for her work at Wissahickon Middle School.
Kris Jennings, at the 8th Grade Center, won the award last year.
