Walk, Hike, Run, Skate, Roll or Ride in Westchester
The newly launched Hike Bike and Explore brochures are available and detail the trails, parks, historical sites and various outdoor interests in the county. This valuable resource can be found online at http://www.visitwestchesterny.com. The countys extraordinary trail system meanders throughout the Hudson Valley and offers beautiful scenery with parks, picnic spots, restaurants, historic sites and nature preserves along the way. Furthermore, the trails detail distances, access points, historical notes, sites of interest and available parking locations, near the trails? main access points. Some of the trails include the Briarcliff Peekskill Trailway, Colonial Greenway, North County Trailway, the Old Croton-Aquedect Trail/State Historic Park and South County Trailway. In addition to these county trails, cyclists, skaters, walkers and joggers can ride or stroll along the scenic Bronx River Parkway on Bicycle Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in May, June and September, where a seven-mile stretch of the parkway from Yonkers to White Plains closes to vehicles so pedestrians can bike, walk or rollerblade.
In addition, John Jay Homestead State Historic Site, 62-acre grounds that include historic outbuildings, four formal gardens, open fields, a pond and wooded trails supporting a wide range of outdoor activity is a fun space to enjoy the outdoors. EAT, DRINK AND BE MERRY at the 3rd Annual Wine & Food Weekend
From June 6 to June 9, enjoy four days of pure heaven, savoring some of the areas finest food and the worlds best wines at the 3rd Annual Wine & Food Weekend. As the premiere wine and food experience in the region, and the largest gathering of restaurants and wine providers in Westchesters history, Wine & Food Weekend features some of the areas most famous chefs, critically-acclaimed restaurants, hottest specialty food products and the worlds most sought-after vintages. Memorial Day Celebrations
There are a host of parades and celebrations commemorating Memorial Day this year throughout Westchester County, including the South Salem Memorial Day Race on May 27, a 10K that takes on some of the most challenging hills in South Salem to the 50 yard plus dashes for Pee Wee toddlers. In Katonah, there will be a Memorial Day Antiques Fair at Lasdon Park & Arboretum, located at 2610 Amawalk Road (Rte 35). The event includes a plant sale, as well as live entertainment, perfect for small and large families. In addition, a popular attraction is the Annual White Plains Memorial Day Parade on May 27 at 10 am, which travels down Mamaroneck Avenue in the city.
And, dont miss the Outdoor Arts Festival on June 1 and 2 in White Plains at Tibbits Park on North Broadway. Vendors from throughout the region will sell their fine art, high-quality fine crafts, photography, pottery, and more!
