2013 NFL Draft: There Will Be Plenty Of Options For Dallas Cowboys At Pick 18

Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

There is no secret what the Dallas Cowboys must do in the 2013 NFL Draft, and anyone who watched the Cowboys last season will tell exactly what they need to do: secure the trenches. Dallas needs to draft for their offensive and defensive lines in April, and failing to do so might result in another average year for America?s Team.

Luckily for the Cowboys, this draft is filled with quality linemen on both sides of the ball, and it?s probably the two deepest positions in the draft.

That?s the good news for the Cowboys. However, teams surrounding them in in the draft like the Pittsburgh Steelers and the St. Louis Rams, need help at the same positions, so the Cowboys might not be able to?get the guy they want.

It?shouldn?t?matter though, because this draft class brings plenty of depth on the offensive line with outstanding prospects like Eric Fisher, Chance Warmack, Lane Johnson, Jonathan Cooper and D.J. Fluker.?That list doesn?t include top tackle prospect Luke Joeckel?because there is no way he makes it to the Cowboys at 18, but it?s no secret that some of the linemen will fall in the draft because they play inside, and the NFL doesn?t regard guard play as highly?as they do tackles.

That?s more good news for Cowboys fans, because they still need to upgrade their interior of their offensive line.

Then again, should all the top rated offensive linemen be taken before 18, the Cowboys also have a need on their defensive line, and there are top-of-the-line prospects there as well. Jarvis Jones, Shariff Floyd, Ezekiel Ansah, Damontre Moore, Bjoern Werner, and Sheldon Richardson are all great prospects who should interest the Cowboys. That list doesn?t include Star Lotulelei, who?s probably going in the first five picks of the draft.

So even if all of their top rated offensive linemen are off the board, the Cowboys will still be able to get a quality player.

The names I just rattled off totals 13 players, and that doesn?t count any other positions, which are sure to take up a few draft picks before the Cowboys are on the clock at 18. Despite what you read or hear, a quarterback or two will be taken early in the first round, as it?s just too important a position for teams to pass up. So even though the Cowboys appear to be in the middle of nowhere at pick 18, they are actually in very good position to draft a player who can help out immediately.

The 2013 NFL Draft has been called a very deep draft with more quality than quantity, which is a big plus for the Dallas Cowboys. There will plenty of good options for the Cowboys; let?s hope they use the pick wisely.
