As the reviews come in on Hardline, a few things have become abundantly clearly: the title is a bit scary, the subtitle is intriguing and most of the people who?ve actually read the book really like it.
The hard line approach is a bit off-putting, and that was by design. I wanted this book to be a tool for those who knew they needed to get tough with themselves and were ready to do it. Maybe a softer title would have encouraged more people buy the book, but if they aren?t going to actually use it, I?d just as soon they didn?t.
I don?t know about you, but I have plenty of books I?ve bought for one reason or another and a fair percentage of them are still sitting on the shelf unread. Not that they aren?t great books?quite a few of them are top of the top in bestseller-land. Still, after I got them in my hand and started reading, they just weren?t what I needed in that moment.
What I needed was something that gave me some specific things that I could do right then and there to make my life different in a nuts and bolts way. While these wonderful books painted broad beautiful strokes across the canvass that inspired, what I needed was a jackhammer, or maybe some dynamite, to get through my thick skull and point out the real world ways I could make immediate changes.
It is one thing to tell someone to take action?and it is the key component of success?however, if you are so confused about what action is the right one, or maybe you can?t even any action to take or ultimately don?t even know what you really want anyway, you?ll still stay stuck.
And how in the world are you ever going to get rid of those subconscious beliefs that are keeping you in the same rut if you don?t know what they are? And even if you do have an idea about your hot buttons, do you have any specific ways to consciously?and subconsciously?rewire them?
If any of this and the things you see on this website speak to you, get the book, and most importantly, use it! And if this hard line approach makes you cringe, take a deep breath and do it anyway.
It?s kind of like jumping into the pool on a hot day. It?s going to be a jolt right at first, but after you get in there and adjust, you?ll have a great time and feel good, probably better than you ever imagined you could.
Yes, you can start in the baby pool and ease your way into the deep end. It can take a while and, if you?re like me, the process can become so tediously unpleasant that you might not ever really get fully in the water.
This is a great metaphor for dealing with what we know is going to be a little uncomfortable at first. We can spend years playing in the shallow end, tiptoeing around the real issues, or we can grit our teeth and just get on with it!
Do what you need to do to live the life you truly deserve?one filled with joy!
